Once you have chosen the model Blackberry you desire to purchase, you now need to find out some specific details and information from your potential seller. It is NOT enough just for the blackberry device to be unlocked.
- Is the phone branded or unbranded? Branded refers to the association of the device to a Carrier such as T-Mobile, Verizon, AT&T etc. It can be easier to verify information about the device if the phone is branded.
- What is the IMEI Number?RIM (Research In Motion) gives each of its blackberry devices a unique serial number known as the International Mobile Equipment Identity Number. If this IMEI number isn't valid, then it means that the original IMEI number was changed which is unlawful. You may be able to use the phone for basic operations such as making/receiving calls and sending/receiving texts but you will NOT be able to access any Blackberry Service for example: email service. Another case is if the IMEI number is valid but blacklisted, this infers that the phone was reported lost or stolen. It is therefore important to contact the Carrier of the device to find out if the IMEI is valid and is on the white-list.
- Is the PIN number released from the Brander/Carrier of the device? Each device has a unique PIN number that is associated with a unique IMEI number. It is wise to ask the Carrier if the PIN with its associated IMEI number is released from their servers, so that you can be able to register both these numbers in your name with a Carrier of your choice or within a particular organisation, so that you will be able to access a data plan.
- What is the condition of the phone? The condition of the phone can be new and sealed in a box, new, used or refurbished. You can also ask for additional photos of the specific phone that you wish to buy from your seller.
- Is the phone SIM locked or unlocked? Once the device is SIM unlocked, then any SIM card can be utilized on it to access the corresponding phone services of the Cell Provider.
- Does the phone have an IT Policy? Examples of the control that an IT Policy on a Blackberry device may have include: the restriction of downloading third party applications and passwords to access the device. An IT policy can be removed by following specific instructions. It is easier to choose a phone that doesn't have an IT Policy.
- Are The Water/Moisture Sensors activated? A moisture/water sensor can be found near where the memory card would be placed in the blackberry device. It's default color is white, but it will change to red if water comes in contact with it, or excessive moisture. A red sensor signals that such a sensor has tripped, and therefore it is recommended not to purchase such a phone.
